CAHA Lady Cyclones

Girls Hockey Teams News
(Posted May 5, 2010)

Just wanted to share a quick update on the status of Tier II National Bound teams for next year and 2010-2011 tryouts. CAHA and Northern Kentucky are working together to develop a plan for Tier II team(s) in our region. The team(s) will be neutral teams formed in addition to and not in conflict with the current teams formed by CAHA or NKY, and the schedule played will be supplemental to the Midwest Travel League schedule.  They will consist of players from Southern Ohio as well as Kentucky and play under a neutral name.  The team formation process is currently being worked. Tryouts and coaches for these teams will be held sometime later in the summer (all will be notified).

The current tryouts for CAHA girls house/rec teams that play in the Midwest Travel League at U14 and U19, and for our new U12 jamboree team are slated for May 15, 4:10pm – 6pm at Northland. NKY Norse will hold theirs May 22 at their rink. CAHA house teams that will play locally in the co-ed league will hold evaluations at the end of the summer.

I encourage you to register at this time. Your timely registration significantly helps CAHA and its coaches with planning and preparation for the 2010 – 2011 season. Please feel free to email or call me with any questions or comments. Go, Girls' Hockey!

Thanks to
"CAHA House Coach of the Year,"
our very own, Ellen Metz!!!
In addition to coaching our Lady Cyclones U19 team, Ellen stepped up when a squirt house coach was needed, in addition to assisting Lakota East's Varsity team. When that wasn't enough hockey for her, she volunteered to coach the U12 Lady Cyclones, when Cincinnati hosted their 2nd U12 Jamboree, March 21. You are much appreciated, Ellen!!

Girls Hockey (Ages 6-19).  The Girls Hockey program has a house level and a travel level. There is no checking at any level. In games where a girls team plays a coed team, no checking is permitted. Girl house teams play in the CAHA house program. The U12 (12 and under) team plays in the squirt house league. The U14 team plays in the Peewee house league. There are U14 and U19 girls travel teams which play in monthly regional festivals. The number and type of teams formed depends on the number and interest level of the girls in a particular year.

Go, Girls' Hockey!

We will be forming the following travel teams (see below for house team info):

U14 Tier II Travel- Ellen Metz & Francis Visalli

U19 Rec/Travel - Playing in Midwest Girls Hockey League -

Coached by Steve Schinasi & Bill Schmidt

U19 Tier II Travel – Ellen Metz

About next season . . .

The Lady Cyclones would like to share with you some plans in the works for our girls for next season that we feel will benefit all girl hockey players in this region. A proposal was adopted to dedicate our U14 travel team as a Tier II, national-bound team. So far, everyone I've spoken to agrees that it is a good idea. Basically, we'd pull the best talent in this area together and play a full schedule in the U14 Midwest League (like we did this year) but fill in the schedule with Tier II tourneys or games with other national-bound teams. This would, we believe, be the best way for the girls to play a full girls hockey schedule, making it even more cost-effective than double-rostering on a girl's and boy's team. There is a lot of good talent in this area, and the time is right to do this. For the parents and girls looking for more competitive direction, this is the answer.

For families not wanting a more competitive team or travel, we will still have a girl's U14 (and possibly a U12 team) and U19 house/rec level teams. Younger teams will join our CAHA house league against boy's and co-ed teams. Our U19 house/rec level team will once again play in the Midwest Heartland Girls Hockey League. U14 girls who might be interested may opt to play at that level, as well.
